The only thing that’s different is the platform on which it happens.”

I met Tony recently at the Rialto Grande, a Brooklyn bar that straddles our two neighborhoods, where we drank some Cosmopolitans during happy hour, and where I wanted to ask him how he succeeded where so many, it seems to me, fail; writing in a way that feels authentic and compelling, contemporary, without veering into the kind of internet-reference-laden prose that I find not only inelegant but essentially unreadable, little more than a series of flashcards with buzzwords on them that flash into my brain and then disappear forever. I asked him about this and whether he has to strategize to avoid the risk of references becoming outdated or redundant.
